What is Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Memphis?

Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Memphis (ADS) is a local non-profit organization established in 1983 for the purpose of operating a day program for persons with Alzheimer’s disease. ADS is a social agency (non-medical) that provides a safe, stimulating and socializing environment for persons with dementia. ADS strives to maintain maximum level of physical, cognitive and social functioning for persons with dementia, while providing respite, education, encouragement and support to their caregivers and families.

How many locations do you have?

We have two centers serve the Mid South region; Kennedy Park, located at 4585 Raleigh LaGrange (inside Kennedy Park), Memphis, TN 38128 and Dorothy’s Place, located at 3185 Hickory Hill Road, (near Knight Arnold), Memphis, TN 38115.\
We will soon be opening a Mid-Town location Fall of 2018.

What are the hours of operation?

Both centers are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a hearty breakfast provided until 9:15 a.m., a balanced lunch provided at 12:30 p.m. and a nutritional snack at 3:30 p.m. ADS provides 20 – 25 therapeutic activities each day that work on cognitive skills, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, socialization and communication.

What is the cost?

“Friends” are asked to contribute a minimum of $35 per day toward services depending on their ability to pay. The actual cost of the service is over $90 per day. The additional funds are made up through grants, gifts, and in-kind contributions. Additional fees may be charged for services such as bathing.
ADS is a provider for CHOICES, VA and Aging Commission of the Mid-South.

How many“Friends” are enrolled?

Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services can provide services to 44 “Friends” per day at Kennedy Park and an additional 55 at Dorothy’s Place.

Is Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services licensed?

Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services is licensed through the Tennessee Department of Human Services.

How is Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services funded?

Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services is funded through “Friends” fees, grants from individuals and foundations and donations of money, goods and services. None of our services would be possible without the continued generous support of our community partners in government, businesses, and service organizations, as well as the enthusiastic commitment of our individual donors, sponsors, volunteers, Advisory Council and Board of Directors. ADS is not affiliated or supported by any other local or national organization.

Do you accept volunteers?

Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services can always use volunteers, whether you are a handy man or just a loving person who wants to share your time. Volunteers augment staffing, which has a ratio of 1:4. Volunteers most often assist with activities and provide companionship to our “Friends”. Volunteers can also provide clerical support and assist with meal preparations in the kitchen if interested.
